Hey ladies. I know you're out there. I know you check the blog from time to time because I hear from you. So I am pandering directly you to you today.
Much has been said in the past few years about Women's Specific Design bikes; smaller sizes, smaller sized components, fits that are specifically designed to fit women better due to the traditionally different body types between men and women. Typically speaking, women have longer legs, shorter torsos, narrower shoulders and smaller hands. However, there is no real consensus as to whether it is true or false. Is it just marketing or good science/ design? A good bike shop can fit a rider, any rider, to a bike.
So, to all the women who care to voice an opinion; what DO you want and need? Let me know. Either reply to the blog or directly to me; tjackson@masibikes.com.
I sincerely hope to hear from you. I know you are out there and I know you know what you want. And I'm listening.

re: silver medal hero...obviously, had you had a MASI, it would have been pure gold, baby!
Speaking on behalf of my wife who is 4'10.5 inches
-more 650c frames, or if possible a 700c frame that can actually fit someone under 5'.
-narrow, short reach bars that allow small hands to reach the ergo/sti levers. There are more options today than there were a few years ago
-STI/ergo front shifters that don't require a lot of hand strength to shift. We put her downtube shifter back on for the front der. because she had a hard time turning the sti shifter
-Love your BLOG btw.
I agree with ashwinearl, my wife is also a small girl and we had a hard time finding a bike for her. Even some of the smallest female frames are almost too big for her. I looked into buying a Terry bike for her but even they don't have bikes for small women... Her crotch touches the top tube on her Trek road bike, and we bought the smallest size made by Trek. More 650c frames would be good, as well as components made for weaker hands...
Don't forget Shimano offers a "Short Reach" solution that will allow you to put shims in that bring the levers closer to the bar. ST-R600 for 9 speed bikes, and soon a 10 speed version ST-R700. The new ST-R700 has a sweeping movement like Dura Ace, and Ultegra, this helps not only with the reach issue, but the strength needed to shift.
