No, I'm not dead- even though it may look that way and even though some folks might wish it were true. Alas, I am still "here"... just not HERE.
In all honesty, it's simply been a matter of time, focus and concentration... oh... and work. In other words, it's not you- it's me. This time of year is when things hit the fever pitch of insanity- filming our dealer DVD, writing copy for our catalog and a new sales manual, being the bigger projects- but not the only ones. On top of that, I've been making a better effort to spend more time with my family- as I've come to realize I haven't been very good at that. In the past 3 weeks though, work has been the 800lb gorilla making family time nearly impossible- one day off in 3 weeks and working 23hrs over the weekend. Needless to say, the blog has taken a hit... hard.
But I'm not giving up and I'm not dropping out of the Social Media world at all. In fact, I've been staying pretty active in SM, just focusing the bulk of my attention on Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr (which coincidentally are all very easy to update from my iPhone). So, you can keep tabs on me- if you wish- in each of those locations... but I promise I am going to come back to the blog, once the dust settles. In fact...
... we're now just a little over a week away from the "Tour day France". I think it's time I blow the cobwebs off this thing with semi regular, if not daily, Tour coverage again. I'm going to commit to making a really good attempt to do my daily analysis and predictions. Not sure if I'll go as deep as a stage by stage pre-race analysis this time, but daily highlights from my twisted point of view should be possible. I've always really enjoyed providing that coverage in the past and it's looking like it could be a good race this year. So we'll see how it all unfolds- the race and my "coverage", both.
I'm keeping this short, but you can see what I am up to and what Masi is up to by keeping an eye on these spots;

Where has the time gone?
Has it really been 12 days since I've written a blog post? Really? Holy crap...
I wish I could say there was any other reason than just the generic "I've been busy". I haven't been riding at all- between the back injury and being sick, I haven't touched a bike in weeks. Hopefully this week will break that cycle... I hope. The reality is that I've just been so slammed with work that by the time I am home from work, I have barely got the mental power to do the Twittering that I do. I have to admit that Twitter has been killing my blogging- the simple 140 character pseudo haiku has proven to be very effective at eating my motivation to blog. Frankly though, that bothers me and I want to regain my blogging power... promise I'm working on it.
Things have been super busy with the development of the 2011 bike line. Yeah- I know, it isn't even 2010 yet. I know... that's part of why I'm so dizzy! Our spec and design cycle gets increasingly shorter year after year. It's a freaking miracle I know what year it is now... 2020, right? We've already got all of our bike colors, names and models selected and are in the process of wrapping up key design elements, as well as spec. Spec is always the big issue and we'll be finishing the loose bits while in Taiwan in a little more than a week. Which brings up...
... I leave for Taiwan and Japan the first week of December. I'll be in Taiwan for Taichung Bike Week, which is the mini un-tradeshow for OEM market. It's the last big chance to see the newest of new products or finalize spec selections, etc before putting the product range to bed. We'll be there sniffing out the best stuff available, as well as getting preliminary views of the latest goodies coming from the big players in the component world. It's pretty exciting for a professional spoke sniffer like myself. The best part of the Taiwan trip for me is getting to sleep in my own bed, in my wife's condo she owns... which just happens to be a block away from where all the show meetings take place! AND... she'll be in Taiwan at the same time! She'll be there primarily to visit family, but at least I'll see here there when I am there. That's a very cool thing.
After Taiwan, I will be returning to Tokyo for the Cycle Mode consumer show for the 3rd year. I love Tokyo and the Cycle Mode show. Japan is simply amazing and our distributor there- Kozaki- is a fantastic host and I am always stupendously happy there. The show is great, the Japanese consumers are great to talk to... and I eat my way through Tokyo like Godzilla on a rampage! I swear... Tokyo may be my favorite place on the planet for food... I love it! I hope this year to finally make it over the uber hip, keirin themed bar- Kinfolk- while I am in the city too. I've never been able to get there in the past, but I'm going to try to get there this year and finally meet up with the very cool folks behind the place. I have no idea if there is any keirin racing going on the time of year in Tokyo, but if there is, I am going to make an effort to get to it. I'm also on a quest to get my hands on anything keirin related... so I'll be hunting!
As of Friday of last week, I might be also adding a little "detour" on the front of this trip; may be headed to Seoul, South Korea for a couple days to see the Seoul Bike Show- which is the Korean equivalent of the Japanese Cycle Mode shows. Our new distributor there will be debuting Masi (and Brev M), so I may be there to assist them in the public launch of the brand there. In the end it means a 3rd country in my 2 week trip, but I am excited by the possibility of seeing Korea and having the chance to help our new distributor there- Kisong International.
As always, as much as I can while I am traveling, I will be doing my best to post to the blog. However, in light of the fact I am often super busy while on the road, I don't get much time for blogging so it's a good idea to keep your eyes on my Twitter and Facebook for short notes and frequent images.
Here's to a great Thanksgiving week- I'll be back in less than 12 days this time, I promise.

Oh... the prettiness is too much!
I posted this picture collage over on the company site and the Masi Twitter feed yesterday...
I know I'm a terrible hack with Paint (how else can I make photo collages on a PC- suggestions appreciated), but you get an idea of how sexy the new bikes will be. There are SO many good looking bikes coming out over the next several months.
As always, I'm really, really, REALLY excited about the new bikes. I would be here being my usual exuberant and gushy self, but as of late I've just been struggling- with only a little success- to just keep my head above water. We're beyond busy with numerous projects and rapidly approaching deadlines, so I've been nearly invisible here and elsewhere online. I hope to be back to my usual verbose self soon. I keep wanting to record more of my Masiguy Podcasts as well as get more discussions going over on the Shut Up and Drink the Kool-Aid site. Hopefully soon... please be patient.
First round jersey design is done! I'll post the final artwork soon, as well as get the ball rolling for feedback on the matching jersey and bib short "Team Masi"designs. So far, the early design comps' look mighty cool. Hopefully we'll have the first design ready to ship by the Interbike tradeshow in September, so stay tuned for more news.
Ok I gotta run and get to the office. Hoping to sneak out a few minutes early after I get all my catalog copy written and turned in today; tonight is race night at Fiesta Island, so it's crit night! Hoping to get out of the office early enough to pick up my wife from home and bring her to the race to watch- she's very excited about watching me race because she's never seen a bike race up close before. So hopefully I can power through the remaining copy needs and get out of the office quick enough to get her for the race.

Coming up for a quick breath of air...
In case you don't follow my Twitterstream and didn't see the news elsewhere, we recorded a new episode of the Spokesmen last night with a new special guest... so check it out.
Still running around busier than a one-armed cotton picker, but I've been managing to ride my bike here and there and have not completely regressed to tubbiness. Got through the filming of our video last week and have been running through other major projects this week... and now have to focus my attention on getting the next edition of the catalog written. We've done all the studio product shots and the new bikes look simply astounding. I always say this, but I am extremely proud of the bikes we have created and I am sure they are going to turn more than a few heads... and hopefully find a way into YOUR living rooms (rather than mine, though I'm sure I'll get a few more).
Married life has been great- my lovely wife and I have been spending as much time together as possible as we settle into all this newness- hence my lack of presence here lately. I'll be back though- I promise- as work settles down a little and things get a bit calmer.
Alright- time to get ready to head out the door to work.
