Contest Winner and Race Report

Ok, the SockGuy sock drawer guessing contest winner is....

William (hoodoohoo), from Saturday at 6:04PM. William's guess of 99 pairs was closest, so he wins a care package of SockGuy socks (one pair of Masi socks of course) and a new Kryptonite lock. William- either drop me a comment with an address or shoot me an email at tjackson (at) MasiBikes (dot) com. And congratulations!

For those who seek the answer to all questions in the universe- the answer is 102 pairs of SockGuy socks; 101 in the drawer and the one pair I was wearing when I took the picture. Yeah, I know... I got a problem.

As for the racing today...

The weather was warmer than I thought it would be and the winds were almost non-existent. Essentially, a prefect day at the track. I did decide to race in the B field, rather than the A's. I knew I wasn't going to be competitive in the A's and I was totally unsure of what the tail bone injury was going to be like at race pace on a fixed gear (versus riding on my own with a geared bike).

The first race was the motorpaced burnout. The C group did 20 laps and then the B's, riding behind the C's, did an additional 20 laps. I managed to hold on through the C's and then made it until about 2-3 to go in the B race before I was just too spun out at race pace. My 88" gear felt small for the speed we were going and it was clear that some of the other riders had been doing some motorpace workouts already and had the flow better than I did. Still, I was happy to have made it that far.

Next up was a Triple Sprint. Basically, it's a 12 lap race. Sprints every 3rd lap, with a "neutral" regrouping lap in between. So you get three sprints and a couple regrouping laps. Points are scored on each Sprint, 5 deep. I think I got a 3rd, 4th and 5th and I was surprised I got that. At race pace, on the fixed gear, the tail bone hurts like crazy. After the triple Sprint, I could feel the swelling beginning.

Lastly, we did a 30lap (10Km) Scratch race. I figured I'd be out in 15- 20, so I was pretty pleased that I ended up finishing the whole race and getting 4th or 5th. Again, when the pressure was on the pedals, the pain was pretty bad and I could sense the power output dropping (though that may have been a psychological response to the pain). I was happy with how I rode and was pleased with the slight "attack" I made halfway through. Basically I just took a 2 lap pull and raised the pace a little... but I didn't barf or fall out of the race... so I was pleased.

In the end, though it hurt a lot more than I thought it would, I was happy that I raced and effectively doubled the number of races I did last year. Hey, small steps people... small steps. One other cool note was that my cousin Steve, who is also a cyclist, was there for the first couple races- watching from his bike. Steve is the first cyclist I ever rode with when I moved to California in 1986 and he's a good guy to boot, so it was great to see him there. (Hopefully he wasn't embarrassed.)

William- drop me a line so I know where to send your prizes.

I hope everybody enjoyed their weekends!

Masiguy contest reminder!

Just a quick reminder; the most recent Masiguy contest (guessing the correct amount of SockGuy socks I have) technically ended last night at midnight. However, since I didn't post a closing reminder, I am extending it until midnight (my time) tonight.

Guess the correct number of SockGuy socks I have in my sock drawer (or be the closest) and win a care package of socks from my good friends at SockGuy and a cool lock from my very good friends at Kryptonite.

Time is running out!

NEW Masiguy Contest!

Ok, I've been meaning to do this for months now... so here goes;

San Diego, CA- November 7th, 2007- Tim Jackson of Masiguy pseudo-fame, announced a new promotional contest for the month of November. Now until the end of November, readers of the Masiguy blog can attempt to guess the number of SockGuy manufactured socks in Mr. Jackson's sock drawer. When asked, Mr. Jackson stated, "it's a lot of socks, but SockGuy makes so many wonderful designs and they are such good guys, I just can't stop myself from acquiring more and more of them." Readers must correctly guess the number of pairs of socks in Masiguy's drawer before the end of November. If nobody guesses correctly, the reader who guesss the closest to the actual number wins. The winner, or winners in case of a tie, will receive a gift pack of socks from SockGuy and a Kryptonite lock (if Mr. Jackson can find the box of locks that used to sit under his old desk, courtesy of his good friend, the Kryptonite Marketing Goddess- Donna Tocci). All entries must be posted in the comment section of the Masiguy blog (this post) before December 1st. One entry per contestant. No refunds. No exchanges. Some readers may experience dizziness or mild upset stomach. Side effects may include slight gassiness, shortness of breath, mild warm fuzzies and in rare cases the belief that something intelligent was written.

So, yeah, there is new contest. Winner gets "some socks and a lock". Pretty freakin' cool if you ask me. Winner gets a nice little assortment of cool socks from SockGuy, including a pair of Masi socks- of course- and a nice new lock from Kryptonite.

To assist you in your guessing, I have a couple pictures for you;

These are just the SockGuy socks I have. Hint- at the time of this photo, I'd just finished my laundry and was wearing a pair of SockGuy socks, so add one pair to your guess.

Here are the non-SockGuy socks- roughly 1/3 the number of SockGuy socks.

Seriously, I love all my socks. Many of the socks I have were given to me as gifts. Though the SockGuy socks are my favorite socks for fit and comfort, I love the other socks too and I am grateful for each pair... but this is a contest to guess the SockGuy socks! The folks at SockGuy have been very kind to me over the years and they are buddies of mine, so I wanted to throw them some more love... as if all those Daily Drive posts weren't enough. My good friend Donna Tocci, from Kryptonite, has also been very good to me over the years and was kind enough to send me some locks a while back (and now I have to find them, after the office move of the past couple weeks). Since I have good friends, YOU get the chance to benefit from those friendships.

Good luck!

Daily Drive

Since my picture yesterday has caused a lot of fear about my current frame of mind (did I really look that stressed out?), I tried to smile this morning.

The flash on the new camera is really potent, so I got totally whited out. Still learning how to use this thing... it's way smarter than me. And yes, I know she's far too adorable for words.

The socks are an old favorite of mine... and we have cool socks in stock so go get your local Masi retailer to order you some... RIGHT NOW!

Posting will be light for awhile as I jump on another series of flights and head off to Taipei, Taiwan tomorrow before sunrise. The Taipei show is exciting to me because I have never been before and going now is really cool. Taipei is the launch pad for many of the cool new products we'll see in coming months, as well as a showcase for all things bike. I will try to do a bit of posting from the show- I'll certainly be taking tons of pictures as usual.

Daily Drive

Another beautiful morning... and the beautiful Masidaughter.

Can you guess who I work for?

Thanks to SockGuy for making the best custom socks around!

Spent the day today with Brian Billington of SRAM... yes SRAM... THAT SRAM. Had a good product discussion, then went for a ride and then went to lunch (yes, our favorite local sushi place again). Sometimes it is really cool to have this job! (Ok, almost all the time... ok, all the time.) Thanks Brian!

Daily Drive... another late one.

So, once again I am late with a post. It's a struggle right now because so very much is happening and I am behind with my blogging duties. More blogging will follow... I promise.

The drive today was nice, as we are heading out of "winter" and into "spring", here in SoCal (that just means our one week of rain/ cold is done for the year).

Today's sock choice was a very simple standby...

It's a simple SockGuy sock... but it is a classic just the same.

Daily Drive

Hey folks! I know I'm a day late posting a Friday drive on a Saturday... but that's just how it goes.

The drive;

(Yes, I shaved.)

The socks;

Nice classic camo... it's ok to be jealous.

I had a visit from a very special rider from Minnesota; Gilby!

Gilby (her code name) is one of my test/ sponsored riders; she races on a Masi steel Speciale and also races on a Coltello track frame. Gilby raced that frame all the way to US Elite Track Nationals this past year! Needless to say, I'm pretty proud of her and her accomplishments.

Gilby is here this week with her boyfriend and fellow Minnesota racer, Andy Kruse. Gilby and Andy rode to Masi Global World Domination HQ with local blog buddy and fellow rider Nick (on the right).

Seeing as to how Minneapolis just got hammered with a massive "dusting" of snow, I'm sure Andy and Gilby didn't mind the slightly cool weather and the light rain.

Since I didn't get to see Gilby race at track nat's this year, it sure was great to have her come by the HQ and get to meet her now. Thanks guys! (Sorry I gave you bad directions and got you lost... I stink with directions.)

Tim

(PS- My thoughts and prayers are with my fellow Alabamans who were recently hit by the severe storms that spawned deadly tornadoes. The town of Enterprise was hit the hardest with 8 high school kids losing their lives when the school was struck by one of the tornadoes. So please join me in wishing these folks a quick recovery from the damage and condolences to the friends and families of those who were injured or killed.)

Here a little earlier today. Trying to get back to it... I swear. (Thanks again folks for all the support and encouragement.)

I know... I need a shave. But the shirt, minus dog hair, is too damned cool!

And the badass new socks from SockGuy today;

Ride Clean!

It's ok to be jealous... no really, it is.
