Cool people I know; Taliah Lempert

I am lucky to know a lot of really cool people. Some are like family to me and others are simply acquaintances that I am lucky to have made. I have been blessed over the years to get to know lots of people in many different fields/ areas of expertise. In short; I'm spoiled.

Taliah Lempert is somebody I have mentioned many times here over the years. I am a huge fan of her paintings and have often spread the news of her work here, sharing flyers about her shows or other projects. I first learned of Taliah's work several years ago when I was helping to edit a magazine (iheartbikes) that she and I both were contributing to. It was then that I fell in love with her style and her paintings. Since that time, we've stayed loosely in touch and I am always searching for a way for her and I to work together on some sort of project (and I'm not giving up).

On a recent trip to her website, I saw her t-shirts again and looked through the new designs... which I really need to have. But upon further digging, past the coloring book that I love so much, I noticed she is now also making caps. I love caps and hats of nearly all types... LOVE THEM... and am now in love with her caps. I will posess them... oh yes, I will.

So, for those of you new to Taliah, you really need to go check out her fantastic bicycle paintings. For those of you who are already familiar, I hope you'll dig a little deeper into her site as well... there's good stuff there!

And Taliah, keep up the great work- I always get a rush of inspiration from your paintings.

Got an email from my fantastic artist friend Taliah Lempert with more information on her shows-

May is Bike Month in NYC

So I’ve got some events coming up.

On Monday night, the 28^th, at 7pm

I’ll be talking about my work and showing slides

(power point, actually) for the 5 Borough Bike Club

at 104 Washington Street, in Manhattan.

I’ve been going through images putting together my favorites.

It’s free and open to the public and they say there’ll be snacks!

Then on May 2^nd it’s up to Albany where my work is featured

in a show called Dream Wheels at the Upstate Artist’s Guild.

I’m teaching a drawing class in my studio.

Basic materials are provided and all levels welcome,

space is limited and the class is full,

If you want to come, sign the waiting list,

One or two spots may open up.

I’ve been doing more of these and having a good time at it.

I’ve got a mobile set up with small paintings, prints, drawings,

cards, t shirts and coloring books.

The Brooklyn Flea has been a big success,

Like I've said before, I love her work and highly encourage you to go check her out if you are anywhere near her shows.

I love art.

I love art. I love music too. And literature... a lot. I'm a regular Renaissance Man (except I think that is supposed to imply that I'm also good at math... which I am NOT).

The thing is, with art, is that I can't draw/ paint/ sculpt/ mold/ doodle at all... my life studies look a lot more like stick figures... on a good day. Don't even ask about the "bad day" drawings. One of my uncles is an artist- one of the best I've ever been lucky enough to view (as well as a very good friend of mine)- so I have been surrounded by art since I was a child. I have immense respect for those folks who can create images like that- I frequently see things in terms of images, but I am unable to bring them into the world. So I am always moved and impressed by the works of those folks who can bring their ideas into the world for the rest of us to see.

I have a few friends who have that talent... and then some... but I want to talk about two in particular right now.

Meet Kathleen King!

Kathleen is a friend of mine from recent history and a diehard bike nut as well as an artist, with an impressive portfolio of work that she's done over the years.

Her latest work is a really cool homage to the motion and grace of cycling. It conveys so much movement and power... without actually moving... that's cool! Anyway, go give it a look-see and say howdy to Kathleen and tell her Masiguy sent you (I hope she won't hold it against you).

Here ends today's lesson in Art Appreciation 101. There will be a test- so study hard and take lots of notes!
