Paging Radio Freddy...

This post is dedicated to Radio Freddy of Belgium Knee Warmers.

"Freddy", if that is his actual name, gets me thinking on a fairly regular basis with the stuff on his blog. He's an old school road dork like me, so a lot of the stuff that spills on to his keyboard and posts to his blog is something I would write, have written or simply have to nod my head to. If you've never been to his place... I highly recommend it.

So, Freddy, just for you;

Well seasoned, well cured, reliable tubies...

Dig the sweet old rims too... epic!

And, project PRO is a go with fresh white tape and neo-retro red hoods (remember the colored hoods of the late 80's).

Hope these meet the Belgium Knee Warmers standards!

Tim - Is that a frame pump I see? PRO. Thanks for the nod.

Nice! Just last weekend I started going through some of my boxes of old bike stuff to see what I could sell and what needed to be trashed or given away (the bike room is getting out of hand). I was amazed at how many old, brittle, flat sew-ups that I still have stored away. They bring back memories though.

Freddy- I don't use co2 at all, just never really liked them. I have always ridden with a frame pump. Your post about the frame pump brought a smile to my face. I don't have an old Silca with Campy metal head anymore. As much as I loved them, they just never worked as well as the Blackburn on this bike (which is is still probably a 10 year old pump).

James- Yep, I have boxes of crap I'll never use but still own. In fact, it was just last year that I threw some of those things away. Boxes of old bottom brackets- the old kind with loose spindles and cups. I even had jars with bearings and old tires with bald spots (emergency tires).

In all fairness though, I have to point out that the tires and wheels pictured belong to one of my very best friends who rides nothing but sewups and rides an old steel Battaglin with a steel fork and downtube shifters. Spot was one of the wheelbuilders who built the wheels for the PRO teams of Wheelsmith.

Hey, those WERE my rims. Once. Though Spot did build them. I rode those things hard and I think I trued them once. Spot is one hell of a builder and hopefully he'll consent to building my next set (god knows he consents to allot of things).

Ahhh... I remember the day he upgraded to friction shifters from indexed downtubes, those were the salad days.

oh, those sweet memories of you getting 7 flats during one ride out in the hills of the east county.... did your pump actually work?

Tim,
I got my hands on some pink "Giro Edition" hoods for the SRAM Force stuff in addition to the red hoods the girls are running right now.. they'd be pretty PRO, too. Let me know if you want to build a pink themed bike. I might be able to hook you up.
I saw quite a few Masi's at Nature Valley. They always catch my eye now...
