Granted, we have no choice when racing, but please wear your helmet each time you ride your bike. OK?
This overgrown disposable coffee cup is THE reason I am alive and not paralyzed as well.
Done for tonight...

Thanks for posting the pictures of you and your helmet. The last two days I've seen four cyclist riding without helmets. I thought maybe I'm being overly paranoid for wearing my helmet. Not now.
Thanks for setting me straight.
Me too. Twice actually, once just from a recreational trail mishap!
How do we get a masiguy sticker?!?!
Holy crap, Tim. I've broken a few helmets in my day but I've never seen anything like that...
(apparently I don't know my blogger password anymore, sorry, I swear I'm not an impersonator!)
Tim,
Sorry your 'testing' helmet use.
Thought my helmet damage (photo) was valid proof for you?
GET BETTER SOON!
Still miles left in those legs ...
That is by far the messiest I have ever seen your hair!
So I've been away from any form of communication at Lake San Antonio the last week in CA and this is what you do to yourself while I'm gone?
Man, glad to see you standing but please do something about your hair.
I hope you have a speedy and full recovery. Thoughts are with you bro.
Hoo- from the looks of that eye, I'd hate to see the other guy.
Heal quick, buddy.
just good to see you standing, Tim!
you can never have too many reminders why it is so important to always wear a helmet.
thanks for taking the time to put this up.
here's to more healing today...have a good one.

I'm so glad you're doing as well as you are! Long ago my mom gave me the choice of riding with a helmet or not riding.
When I was 19, I was racing at the track. After the half way sprint in a points race, some guy forgot to turn going into turn 1. That was 18 years ago and I still have the shattered helmet.
We don't let our 3 and 5 year old ride their bikes around the driveway without their helmets on. They always point out people riding without helmets.
"A picture paints a thousand words" is almost an understatement here.

Get better soon!! Wishing you all the best!

Hi, Mr. Stutzman here. I do not have your e-mail so I'll let you know here that I and all of the bike jocks of the S.D. velodrome wish you well and hope to share beer and funs at the track soon. I feel your pain, really.
If there is anything I can do for you let me know, call Spot...he wants to know you are O.K. as well. You can reach me through him if you want, but do not feel obligated, as recovery can be a somewhat solitary venture.
Anything you need, your friends are here.

ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET.
i am here writing this because a helmet has saved my life no less than 4 times, due to bad pavement or a bad driver. so don't be a euro pro nob, wear a helmet. just ask the guys at CSC who crashed training in LA or leo grande of ROCK, what it feels like not too wear a helmet.
listen to tim and GO RIDE [with a helmet on]
I grew up in a funeral home as the son of an undertaker. My dad always used to say that he never unbuckled a corpse from a seatbelt, and he never had to take a helmet off a corpse.
Wow man... that helmet picture is freaky.People working on safety and accident prevention should link to your post. Whoever still thinks helmets are not necessary is either stupid or crazy. Insightful advice, thank you.
About two years ago, I crashed on some gravel and cracked my helmet open - certainly not to the extent you did. When I got home, I showed it to my kids and said "This is why you wear a helmet!" Thanks for the great blog, and get well soon!

Looks like they have some type of Profile aero bars on your crutch. Can you have anyone craft you up some carbon or ti crutchs? That would be great.
Tim,
On behalf of the Grumpy's/LGR team in MN, we are glad to see you up and about. We wish a speedy recovery!
Best, T.C. Worley
Thanks for the reminder! We aren't racers by any stretch of the imagination, but do quite a lot of touring and commuting. I used to never wear a helmet, but when we decided to make our kids wear helmets we figured we'd better walk the talk. Now I feel naked without it.
We'll be taking off soon to ride our bikes from Alaska to Argentina (with our kids) and we'll make sure to wear them - even on those totally remote segments of teh road.
You can read of our journey at www.familyonbikes.org
glad to see you are on your feet!
sorry about the wreck and the injury
glad it was not worse
get some rest
take it easy
and see if that helmet is under warranty!
